CIVIS European University Alliance

A pioneer of the first wave of European Universities Alliances, CIVIS brings together 11 member universities in Europe and 6 associate members in Africa embarking on an odyssey to transform higher education. CIVIS is an Alliance where we join forces to do together what we could not do apart. We believe the future of higher education must be transdisciplinary, global with a local anchor, embedded in society and focused on solving its most pressing challenges.

We strive for multicultural, multilingual and truly democratic education for all. CIVIS is Europe's Civic University Alliance, bringing together a community of more than 470,000 students and 58,000 staff members. It is the fruit of the special collaboration between 11 leading research higher education institutions across Europe: Aix-Marseille Université, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, University of Bucharest, Université libre de Bruxelles, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Sapienza Università di Roma, Stockholm University, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, University of Glasgow, Paris Lodron University of Salzburg and University of Lausanne. In Africa, our Associate members are: Makerere University, Uganda; Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique; Université Hassan II de Casablanca, Morocco; University of Sfax, Tunisia; Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar, Senegal and University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.
