Introduction
The Master’s Degree in Behavioural and Applied Economics (BEA) provides solid education in Economics with the possibility to develop advanced competences in Behavioural and Applied Economics.
Combining Behavioral and Applied Economics into a single path offers a unique opportunity to:
- develop empirical analysis skills, along with the ability to work with large datasets. This integration allows for in-depth research across a wide range of economic fields, including industrial organization, labour economics, public policy evaluation, data analytics, and big data analysis.
- improve the predictive power of economic models by incorporating insights from psychology. Predictable deviations from rationality benchmarks (biases) are organized into theories that provide a better account of human behavior.
In this way, BEA Graduates are equipped with a strong foundation to conduct rigorous economic analysis on issues relevant to policy, business, and decision-making.
Throughout the program, theory and empirical methods are continuously integrated, with each course offering a balanced approach to both aspects. This unique learning experience allows BEA students to apply their knowledge to real-world situations while honing critical skills such as communication and independent evaluation.
These skills are further enhanced through external opportunities, including internships and exchange programs at partner universities around the world.

Career Opportunities
Graduates in Behavioural and Applied Economics learn to assess and interpret economic phenomena by combining the economic theory and the empirical evidence in the form of experimental data and observational data. This makes them able to put their expertise to work both in the private and the public sector as:
- Researcher in national and international research centers, think tanks and non-profit organizations (Bank of Italy, EU, UN, OECD, World Bank, FAO, UNICEF, etc…).
- Consultant in banks and financial institutions (European Central Bank, Bank of Italy, etc.)
- Financial Adviser
- Data or market analyst for private companies
- Advertiser
Specifically, BEA graduates are able to analyze, seize and use experimental data to collocate the baseline organization in its economic context and understand the trend of the economic variables and the economic behavior of people. Moreover, they possess skills in conducting data analysis to test economic theory and provide insightful policy advice.
The set of competences acquired and the empirical approach make them skilled to assess independently and provide policy recommendations and strategic governance for Companies, NGO's and Public organizations at international level.
BEA graduates are trained to collect, analyze and explain data as well as connect together the different economics players of organizations and predict the potential effects of economic decisions.
Graduates are also able to monitor and suggest corrections towards undertaken actions, address new development strategies within organizations, both public and private.
This makes BEA graduates fit to work as market and data analysts or professional experts in different and complex economic systems with high responsibilities like multinational corporations, banks or government institutions, NGO's, as well as international research institutions and public administrations.
In addition, BEA Master Programme provides graduates with the necessary foundations in economics and statistics to proceed to a PhD.
